To start a Bassmaster High School or Junior club, you must first form an official organization. If organized through your school, recruit a faculty advisor and a minimum of two students. Next, ensure all members affiliate with B.A.S.S. and pay the required dues to join the club. Finally, register the club with Bassmaster, and affiliate with Kentucky B.A.S.S. Nation to complete the process and begin fishing. If you are seeking a defined list of requirements, please access the following link:

Qualification for the Bassmaster High School National Championship through KBN will be based on the following:

     a. Two (2) berths for the 1st and 2nd place teams of the Bradley Roy Open

          i. Note, if the 1st and/or 2nd place teams are double qualified, we will drop down the State Championship list to the next place team but not beyond the third place.

     b. The remainder of the National Championship berths will be determined based on the   total number of teams and members who registered to participate in each KBN Division  with emphasis on each division's final Team of the Year standings.

          i. B.A.S.S. enables each division to present one (1) berth for every twenty-five (25) teams / fifty (50) individual members. For example:

  • (50) teams / (100) members = two (2) berths
  • (150) teams / (300) members = three (3) berths
  • (250) teams / (500) members = four (4) berths
  • (350) teams / (700) members = six (6) berths

Qualification for the Bassmaster Junior National Championship will be based on the following:

a. One (1) berth for the 1st place team of each division’s final Team of the Year Standings.

Each student angler must have three (3) memberships:

  1. B.A.S.S. Nation Dues = $30 (due annually)
  2. Kentucky B.A.S.S. Nation Dues = $10 (due annually)
  3. Bassmaster / B.A.S.S. = $12 (due annually)

~Please note, for each angler's B.A.S.S. membership, no matter if they are a New or a Returning Angler, you must also first BUY A NEW B.A.S.S. MEMBERSHIP or RENEW THEIR EXISTING MEMBERSHIP SEPARATELY through bassmaster.com. This membership will give each student angler the eligibility they need to fish B.A.S.S. affiliated events and a one-year subscription to Bassmaster Magazine. Please access the following link to take advantage of the special B.A.S.S. membership offer exclusively for college or high school anglers:

https://bassmaster.secure.darwin.cx/I2BCS31M

~The Head Coach of your respective school / club team needs to be responsible for facilitating the payment of each angler's B.A.S.S. Nation Dues and Kentucky B.A.S.S. Nation Dues. Checks made payable to Kentucky B.A.S.S. Nation can be sent in the mail to Treasurer, Greg Marshall (1103 Tammy Drive, Paris, KY 40361) along with (a) current team roster, (b) first + last names of each angler, and (c) B.A.S.S. membership ID numbers for each angler.

Please access the link below to navigate to the Bassmaster Roster management system. From there, Coaches may establish a new login or sign-in to their existing profile to add and remove anglers from their related High School and/or Junior clubs.

After carefully weighing our options for the 2025-2026 season, the KBN Board of Directors has decided to opt out of the Battle of the Border event this year's event scheduled for March 2026. This decision was made with the best interests of our members and our local trail schedule in mind.

Reason for Decision

In previous years, this tournament has been successfully held as a one-day event. However, for 2026, the Tennessee B.A.S.S. Nation (TBN) proposed a new two-day format (March 28–29). This change was intended to allow both states to count participants toward their respective National Championship berth tallies.

While we value our partnership with TBN, the proposed dates create a direct scheduling conflict with our Central Trail event at Lake Cumberland. To maintain the integrity of our own state trail and ensure our anglers are not forced to choose between events, the Board determined that we cannot move forward with the Battle of the Border at this time.

Looking Ahead

Our primary commitment remains the success of our scheduled state trails and the convenience of our members. While we are passing on the event this year, the KBN Board remains open to revisiting the Battle of the Border in the future, provided the scheduling and format align with our tournament calendar.

We appreciate your continued support and understanding. Our focus remains on ensuring a high-quality event at Lake Cumberland on 3/28/26, and we look forward to an overall productive 2026 season for all our anglers in all of our local KY trails!
